The other day I was listening to some of my favorite songs. “Bohemian Rhapsody” by Queen came on, and the verey first line caught my attention.
“Is this the real life, is it just fantasy?”
Freddy poses an interesting question. As we are reading Alice in Wonderland we need to think if what we are reading was real life, or was it just the imagination of Alice? I pose this question as more of a suggestion than a question. It is something that I want us all to think about as we continue to follow Alice in the story. As Alice is traveling through Wonderland she is encountering more and more people, and she is not able to introduce herself because she does not really know who she is. As the story goes on she gets more in the thought of “going with the flow.”
As a possible answer to you suggestion or question, Alice’s journeys could hardly be called real, with the real we know of. In a book anything can be seen as real, but it’s not really real. It could be that Wonderland is somewhere beneath England and it really is real, but with the real that we know, her adventures are not really real, they could be, but most likely aren’t. On your second point Alice is just going through whatever she sees and talks to who ever she meets. All her encounters are random and nonsensical and she doesn’t know what’s going on, She’s not being an individual and she is “going with the flow.”
